Body-Centered Trauma Healing
Somatic Therapy in New York City

What This Therapy Is
Somatic therapy at Double Diamond Wellness is a body-centered approach to healing that works directly with the nervous system, physical sensations, and stored trauma in the body. This includes Transforming Touch® — a gentle, hands-on modality that helps release deeply held tension, trauma, and emotional pain that verbal processing alone cannot fully address.
Who It Helps
Somatic therapy is especially effective for individuals who carry trauma in their body — chronic tension, dissociation, difficulty feeling safe, hypervigilance, or a sense of being disconnected from physical sensations. It supports people with PTSD, developmental trauma, anxiety, depression, and those who have experienced physical or emotional abuse.
What a Session Is Like
Sessions involve guided attention to body sensations, breath, and nervous system states. Transforming Touch® sessions may include light, attuned touch to areas where the body holds tension or trauma. The pace is always guided by your comfort and capacity. The goal is not to push through discomfort, but to help the body gradually release what it has been holding and restore a felt sense of safety.
Benefits of This Work
Clients often experience greater embodiment, reduced chronic tension, improved emotional regulation, a deeper sense of groundedness, and the resolution of trauma responses that had been stored in the body. Somatic therapy helps the nervous system shift from survival mode toward regulation and resilience.
How It Fits Into the Healing Process
Somatic work integrates naturally with psychotherapy and EMDR therapy, adding a body-level dimension to cognitive and emotional processing. It can also complement ketamine-assisted psychotherapy by supporting the physical integration of insights that emerge during medicine sessions.
